Exhumation of a migmatitic unit through self-enhanced magmatic weakening enabled by tectonic contact metamorphism (Gruf complex, Central European Alps)

چکیده
Abstract The Central Alpine lower crustal migmatitic Gruf complex was exhumed in contact to the greenschist-grade Chiavenna ophiolite and gneissic Tambo nappe leading a lateral gradient of ~ 70 °C/km within ophiolite. 14 km long, E-W striking subvertical now bridges metamorphic conditions 730 °C, 6.6 kbar gneisses 500 4.2 serpentinites schists 2–4 north contact. An obvious fault, mylonite or highly sheared rock that could accommodate 8.5 vertical displacement is not present. Instead, more than half movement accommodated 0.2–1.2 thick orthogneiss heterogeneously molten. Discrete bands with high melt fractions (45–65%) contain variably stretched enclaves adjacent MOR-derived amphibolite. In turn, amphibolites exhibit tonalitic in-situ leucosomes dikes i.e., were partially H 2 O necessary for fluid-assisted melting likely derived from tectonic metamorphism serpentinites, at enstatite + olivine-grade. U–Pb dating zircons shows partial diking occurred 29.0–31.5 Ma, concomitant calc-alkaline Bergell batholith intruded Gruf. major driving forces exhumation hence strong regional North–South shortening collisional belt buoyancy provided by magma. fluids available through led self-enhanced magmatic weakening concentration an orthogneiss, where melt-rich low friction environment. Continuous heating originally greenschist during differential uplift explains skewed temperature profile, intensive but little cooling portion now-exposed complex.

Himalayan Metamorphism and Its Tectonic Implications
The Himalayan range exposes a spectacular assemblage of metamorphic rocks from the midand deep crust that have fostered numerous models of how the crust responds to continental collisions. Recent petrogenetically based petrologic and geochronologic studies elucidate processes with unprecedented resolution and critically test models that range from continuum processes to one-time events. The pro...

Magmatic and Tectonic Evolution of Southern Tibet and the Himalaya
The Himalaya-Tibetan orogen has become the paradigm for continental collision and is central to deciphering continental tectonics. Neogene extension in the orogen is not predicted by plate tectonic theory, and its significance is widely debated. In the Himalaya, north-south extension is restricted to the Southern Tibetan Detachment System (STDS), which juxtaposes the High Himalayan Crystalline ...
